According to the Home Shopping Network, Esteban is one of a select few
guitarists in the musical world who carry the
coveted personal endorsement of the great Segovia.

See: http://www.estebanmusic.com/ Free downloads!!!!! Don't miss the
"Lonely Bull" and the Esteban Guitar Pin!
It appears that Esteban and Zorro have the same tailor.

"Specialness" or gag, as your taste may warrant. There is no accounting
for taste, it is in the eye of the beholder.

My favorite Esteban moment was that one time while he was pitching
his merchandise, he let slip that he stopped playing for ten
years due to a drunk driving conviction.

Aha ! then maybe he really is tuned in to Segovia.. maybe he imagined scales
and slur exercises to maintain his chops while in prison. Hence the coveted
Segovian endorsement.

Methinks we scoff too much. There may be more to this self-inflated, gigolo
of the guitar than meats the aye !

Now let's be fair, it was Esteban who was injured by a drunken driver.
If he was a guitarist that interested me I wouldn't care how long he was
in prison or if he wore tight blue flannel leotards. Joe Pass did a
little time for the state of Texas and some of the best cante hondo's
came from the prisons of Spain.

The saddest thing to my way of thinking was the need for that enlarged
photograph of Segovia and himself above his fireplace.
It's true, there's a cheese for every taste.

Okay, maybe I misunderstood him. How do you know so much about Esteban?

And what kind of injury takes ten years to heal to where you can
play guitar again?

Yeah, some great artists are total sociopaths. Not that Esteban is
a great artist. He's an average musician with a genius for marketing.

I knew Joe a little bit. He was a mellow cat who got addicted and
then persecuted by our ridiculous drug laws. He was no criminal.

No genius just a guy who had another dirtbag idea on how to make a
profit from the guitar an implemented
that idea.... that's all.

I hooked up with a jazz guitarist in Houston years ago. Joe's manner of
chord work was quite interesting and rather
difficult on the classical guitar. Martha Stewart's no criminal but
she's looking at more time than Andy Fastow
who did a deal on Jeffery Skilling and Ken Lay last week. Steward hurt
no one but Enron ruined a lot of people.
Joe got caught that's all... horse makes you slow and stupid. I did it
twice and never touched the stuff again... that
was 30 years ago.

Insider trading hurts everyone; it's the same as putting copyright works on
the internet.

I would suggest that you get your facts straight before posting a
comment like this. It was he that was hit by a drunk and was unable
to play because of injuries. You might want to check out his web
site. Estaben is not a great player but he has hit on a way to make
money and does bring the guitar to a lot of people who otherwise would
never hear it. And he is far superior to others on this group who
have cd's and are hawking them on this group

I'm a big fan of Esteban and never fail to roll on the floor with laughter
whenever I see one of his pathetic commercials. They are all so imaginatively
pathetic--they remind me of an Ed Wood movie. I've written a tribute to Esteban
in my Book 5 called "Flamenco Rumba". It's based loosely on some stupid thing
he was playing.

On a more serious note, Esteban probably does more for popularizing CG than
anyone since Fredric Noad.

Well, he apparently has a nice niche with Mexican/semiflamenco.

He says he was in a serious car accident and couldn't play for a decade. If so,
I give him credit for his comeback.

Overall, I enjoy his CDs while working. Yeah, I know how to criticize it, but
geeze the music he plays is popular stuff more than pure classical. He can take
some liberties.

I don't know? When I see him on the shopping network I'll usually
watch and enjoy his playing. Who knows, If he came to my area I might
go and see his band.

There have been pictures on the net of him with Sagovia so I don't
have any more reason to doubt his credentials than the next guy that
likes to make that association.

You're probably one of those frustrated pickers that's not talented
enough to make it on your own so you enjoy tearing someone else down
that's been able to achieve a little success.

What's wrong with his wardrobe? Could be that's the difference
between his success and failure.

Just thought I'd stand up for the guy since he's not here to defend
himself :-)

He's a very talented person who never devoped his talent. No direction in his
technique.

For the advanced audience of guitar Esteban may seem like a joke ... but for
a lot of people who've always wanted to play ... maybe he's a godsend ...
I'd like to meet him and hear his story.

Isn't it his story that he always tells over and over again on TV?
